In honor of Veteran’s Day today I thought I would give a little shout out to my grandfather, Edward Alphonsus Curry, who flew planes during World War II. I love you grandpa! My grandpa Ed is one of the best story tellers. It may just be that he loves to hear himself talk but he also has some very interesting things to say. A few years back he wrote a book called “Blue Yonder.” He wrote it for the family so it was never published, but it is definitely publish-worthy. This summer, a couple days before the masses of Curry’s made their way into Palm Springs for our family reunion, I got the unique opportunity to hear the live version of some of the stories with the actually planes he flew behind him when we visited the Air Museum in Palm Springs, where he did some of his training back in the 1940’s. My cousin Callie and I were the only cousin’s in town at the time. We jumped at the opportunity and what an experience! To see the glimmer in grandpa’s eyes was priceless. He was riding on his scooter around those hangers like a little kid on a tricycle. I took a few videos (below) to try and capture the moment for my cousins who weren’t able to get to Palm Springs earlier in the week. He is such an amazing man – so loving and full of joy. I am so happy I was able to be there with him while he relived some of those amazing experiences.
**I apologize for the wind noise. It was bloody hot in those hangers and they had HUGE industrial fans blowing. I didn't realize they would be so loud on the recording.
